Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years in China.
Today it is still used right alongside other Chinese therapies, and also with Western Medical treatments in technologically advanced modern Chinese clinics and hospitals.
The World Health Organisation lists over 120 ailments which it scientifically believes Acupuncture can help in treating.
In England, the National Health Service now includes the use of Acupuncture in its hospital services for problems like migraine headaches and back pain. They only do this because Acupuncture works so well and successfully cures patients.

Acupuncture stimulates and circulates the vital Qi (pronounced as chee) energy in the human body to produce its healing effects.
The ancient Chinese gave the name Qi to the energy that circulates through our bodies. This energy animates us and brings us to life.
When we look around us anywhere in the scientific Western world, we can see all our cars, televisions, and everything else needs some form of electrical energy to work and to come to life.
All our living plants get their energy from the sun through photosynthesis to bring them to life.
It is very simple to understand (and obvious) that our bodies are also running off some forms of energy. Traditional Chinese Medicines use Acupuncture to manipulate that energy inside the human being. Sometimes the energy has become weak in an area, other times it may have become blocked. The copper or steel Acupuncture needles are used like electrical conductors to move and regulate the vital Qi energy in the human body to restore its proper functioning and to create powerful health.

The disposable modern needles now used in Acupuncture are 100 per cent sterile. There is absolutely no possible chance of any infection coming from them.
Needles are generally left in the appropriate Acupuncture points in the patient to do their work for twenty to thirty minutes.
When people are in a comfortable environment, such as in my Leixlip clinic, most of them find the Acupuncture experience to be very relaxing and pleasant.
In my clinic, I often find many clients are resting so peacefully during their Acupuncture treatment that a few of them will even drift off into a sleep.

A question I often get asked by people who are not familiar with real Acupuncture is " Does it hurt ? ".
And the answer is " No ", Acupuncture needles when they are inserted by a skilled and competent practitioner should not cause any pain. They are very small needles. As you can see in the picture opposite, they are so tiny that about 20 Acupuncture needles can fit into the opening of one single hypodermic syringe, which is commonly used in Western Medicine to withdraw blood or to inject chemicals into the body.
However, when getting Acupuncture, you should always make sure you go to a skilled and fully qualified Acupuncturist. Unfortunately, there are now others in non Chinese Medical therapies who are offering needling treatments to their patients. It takes many years of training to become able to use needles safely and without pain. Most of these other therapists are not fully trained or properly skilled in needling techniques nor in Chinese Medical Theories, so you are taking a big chance by using them for any Acupuncture type treatments.

I also often get asked by people unfamiliar with real Acupuncture " Is Acupuncture just a placebo, is it just all in your imagination ? ".
The answer again is " No, not at all ". It works whether you believe in it or not.
To attest to this it is being used more and more frequently and successfully by vets all across Europe and America. Obviously any effect it has on curing sick animals is absolutely nothing to do with what they are thinking. It is also used regularly on babies in China and even on people in comas.
Acupuncture, without doubt, truly works and causes energetic and physical reactions which help heal the body.
